Origin & Inspiration

Inspired by the 13th-century chanson de geste: Les Prouesses et faitz du noble Huon de Bordeaux. This wallet tells the tale of Huon, knight of Bordeaux, cast out by the emperor Charlemagne, destined to rise through trials of courage, loyalty, and fate. After defending himself in a fatal duel with Charlot, son of Charlemagne, Huon is sentenced to an impossible mission in the distant land of Babylon to redeem honour. There, he must confront the powerful Emir Gaudys and complete a list of tasks: among them, kissing the Emir’s daughter Claramond, defeating her fiancé, and returning with the Emir’s beard and four teeth.

On his journey, Huon meets Oberon, the mysterious King of the Faes, deep in an enchanted forest. Though warned of his magic, Huon greets Oberon with honour and gains a powerful ally. Oberon gives him two enchanted objects: a goblet that refills endlessly and an ivory horn that can summon help in moments of peril.

Huon’s path is long and dangerous. He defeats the giant Angolafer, endures betrayal by his kin, and is imprisoned in Babylon. Claramond, brave and steadfast, becomes both an ally and a beloved, aiding his escape. In the end, Huon returns triumphant, pardoned by Charlemagne, and chosen by Oberon as heir to the faerie realm.

The tooling on this wallet follow Huon’s odyssey: his meeting with Oberon, the fierce duel with the giant, and the bond with Claramond that turns exile into destiny. Each detail echoes the soul of medieval epics: where trials shape heroes, and legends are proven through courage.

Artisanal method

The narrative is hand-tooled into Italian vegetable-tanned leather using a custom cliché inspired by 13th-century illuminations and sculptural motifs. Dyed by hand in natural brown with aged finishing, the leather reveals the interplay of shadow and relief across every heroic contour. Inside, function meets finesse with card slots, document compartments or coin pouch (depending on model), waxed linen thread stitching, and hand-burnished edges.

Selected Materials

Every Huon de Bordeaux is handcrafted and engraved individually, no two pieces will ever be alike. Each piece is made from 100% Italian vegetable-tanned leather, sourced from Walpier and Badalassi and certified by the “Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale”. It is saddle-stitched by hand with waxed pure linen thread. A certificate seal from the Consortium is included with every wallet, attesting to the leather’s authenticity and origin. With use, the leather softens and darkens, developing a unique patina that reflects its journey. You can customise the exterior dye, the thread colour, and the type of inner leather to create a wallet that reflects your taste.

Love the chainmail detail

Looks just like the ones in medieval marginalia, amazing that it’s hand-tooled that well

Wasn't sure at first but I'm blown away.

The leather’s softening fast. Looks even better now.

Beautiful craftsmanship and packaging.

It came with a certificate and everything, a bit stiff at first but already softening.

A rare find

The tooling is sharp but warm, if that makes sense. It feels old and new at the same time. Shipping was fast, and the seller was kind enough to answer my (many) questions with patience.
